Disability Groups in the Workplace: Conditions and Challenges in Indonesia as a G20 Country Image
Abstract

The report in your hands today is a painstakingly prepared research report and a welcome document for the upcoming G20 leaders' summit in Indonesia in November 2022. This report not only invites readers to learn about the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in Indonesia but also aims to provide a critical account of "Persons with Disabilities in the Workplace: Conditions and Challenges in Indonesia as a G20 Country". Through this report, we would like to utilise the Summit in furthering the mainstreaming of the rights of persons with disabilities. This report is expected to be one of the evidence that can be read directly by the G20 leaders. More importantly, this report is expected to be a source of up-to-date information on how people with disabilities fare in the world of work in Indonesia.

Furthermore, this report seeks to advance a collective understanding of how and what are the enablers and barriers to social justice for persons with disabilities. Human rights and decent work for the entire labour force are key elements of a more inclusive economy and society without exception. Disability policies in the world of work in many countries still face a number of dilemmas and challenges that are closely related to the heterogeneity of the group. Policies often reach a dead end when a one size fits all approach is adopted. Policies that tend to generalise with the intention of addressing all issues, end up leaving problems in their wake.

This report also offers more intensive support by studying the diversity of contexts and intersectionality in disability groups. This is expected to encourage the realisation of no one left behind. Fulfilling access to work will have implications for supporting conditions such as education and infrastructure that are more inclusive. Finally, thank you to the PRAKARSA research team and the various parties involved in the process of preparing this report. I hope that this report will enrich existing knowledge sources and provide reinforcement so that every stakeholder is fully committed to realising enabling conditions and ensuring that existing policies are realised and have an impact.
